Approximately 13 years ago, God helped me discover something that changed my life. I started helping ministries that provided help to women who were sex trafficked. I had always wondered what spiritual gift God gave me. I was confused for 30 years as to what that meant. Then I realized I was great at administration, bookkeeping, and showing others love. These are the things I was doing but I finally realized these were my gifts for God's Kingdom work.
I began to sell fair trade goods to help ministries like Grain of Rice, Sak Saum, Better Way Imports, Starship project, and many others. The ministries pay their artisans a fair wage and give those who sell the products part of the income as well. I realized that not only was I helping those who made these products when I sold them but I started to accumulate some profit. It was never my intention to earn money for myself. So, I talked with my good friend, Anna, who had adopted children in Uganda and was personally supporting a ministry in Uganda called, The Gift of a Girl Foundation.
This began my mission to help these girls, the children in that village, their community, and share my love of Christ by using my skills to raise funds for them. These girls refer to me as Mama Ruth. They continue to say they are so thankful for the support of people that do not even know them. We can show them the love of Jesus and his grace by continuing to support them in their education, providing life skills, and supplies needed for their growth.
